Back pain is one of the most common conditions that I see in my practice. 80% of the population will experience some form of low back pain in their lifetime. The good news is that in most cases conservative treatment such as chiropractic can resolve it.
The causes of back pain are many. Overuse, trauma and musculoskeletal weakness are the most common. Locked or misaligned joints, tight or weak muscles, nerve impingements can all lead to back pain. In order to resolve the pain it is necessary to find the source or the root cause of the pain. By resolving the underlying cause, the body heals, the pain resolves and there is less likelihood for recurrence.
The techniques I utilize include spinal manipulative therapy (adjustments), myofascial release therapy for tight muscles, flexion distraction to improve joint mobility, laser therapy to quickly reduce muscle pain and inflammation, as well as electric muscle stimulation and ultrasound therapy to calm muscle swelling and spasm.
As pain resolves, home exercises are often prescribed to build strength and stability in the spine to prevent recurrence.
